SITE VISIT: GOVERNMENT FLYING SERVICE (GFS)

On 22 December 2017, the AIAA Student Branch at HKUST visited the Hong Kong Government Flying Service (GFS). GFS is a disciplined unit of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with several responsibilities including Search and Rescue (SAR), Air Ambulance and Law Enforcement services.

During this visit, students were able to learn more about the responsibilities of GFS and tour their facilities, as well as look at and photograph the GFS aircraft up close. Students were also keen to learn about future career opportunities at GFS.

GFS operates a variety of fixed-wing aircraft including a Diamond DA42, a Czech-built Zlín Z 42, and two of the latest Bombardier Challenger 605 aircraft. As part of their helicopter fleet, GFS currently operates 3 Eurocopter AS 332 L2 and 4 Eurocopter EC155. GFS currently has 7 Eurocopter H175’s on order (GFS is the launch operator of the SAR variant) due to arrive in 2018 as part of their fleet renewal.
